Happy New Year from the Itty Bitty Foodies

Our new year’s resolution for 2014 is to live a simpler life. To cut down on crazy schedules, spend more time together as a family and to live more in the moment. As for IttyBittyFoodies, we’ve got a new look for 2014 and hopefully easier navigation. We look forward to what 2014 brings but I wanted to take a moment to relive some of our favorite posts of 2013.

Best activity for kids at restaurants: It is of course the Rainbow Loom which is the toy of the year. This keeps the kids busy for hours and creative. Check out 8 year old Pikelet’s Darth Vader Charm tutorial (his own design) on the IttyBittyFoodies YouTube Channel or five year old Lollo’s Rainbow Loom Flower Charm tutorial.

Yummiest place to dine: Mot Hai Ba for so many reasons like sticking to their Northern Vietnamese roots and not serving hoisin sauce with their Hanoian pho. But most of all for their incredibly delicious food.  Pikelet & Lollo often ask to eat their beef pho with rare filet mignon and tender brisket. This is the boys’ favorite place to dine after church.

Foodie Find: Hooray for Trader Joe’s which opened it’s first location in Dallas on Lower Greenville. We love your snacks and salads. This is the place for someone who wants to eat well but don’t feel like doing cooking from scratch.

Favorite Weeknight Recipe of the year: With just 10 minute prep time, we love adding the Chinese BBQ Pork (Char Siu) recipe to our weeknight repertoire.

Best Book: D: The Cookbook is the inaugural cookbook partnered by DMagazine and the local chef community. What an absolutely great cookbook and a keepsake. We love that a portion of the proceeds goes to Cafe Momentum, an organisation that helps at risk youths by training them for the restaurant industry. Cafe Momentum is headed by ex-Parigi chef/owner, Chad Houser.

Googie Wonderland: As Googie gets older, he’s able to eat restaurant food. Nosh Euro Bistro is one such place that is surprising kid friendly for mini gastronauts. Though it’s not so much in the news these days, Nosh is one of those restaurants that have consistently produced great food at reasonable prices. Check out what Googie ate at Nosh (it involves truffles!)

Favorite Motherhood Musing: “The Best Gift I ever received was this carton of eggs” was written about a year ago just after the birth of Googie our latest baby boy. Googie’s birth was traumatic and almost fatal for him and I. The experience gave me an epiphany on how I viewed life and how to cherish our days.

With that, I wish you lots of love, blessing and great food!

Till our next Happy Meal!
