Bowery – Eat Good Dogs

Decor by John Paul Valverde from Coeval Design

Hot dogs are my personal weakness and the newly opened Bowery in Uptown serves them just the way this Mama likes them; with Champagne cocktails. Whether you like a classic Chicago dog or something more high brow with wagyu or foie gras, rest assured that all the sausages are hand-made, grass fed (where applicable) and organic; the buns are baked daily.

Moroccan Lamb Merguez Sausage was a spicy hit!

“The burger has been elevated and now we strive to do that with the dog,” says co-owner Tiffanee Ellman (from the husband-wife team who also owns the chic Oak restaurant in the Dallas Design District). The concept is a fresh perspective on a quintessential American favorite with global and modern interpretations like my Moroccan dog made with a lamb merguez sausage, harissa slaw and apricot jam. It was delicious with a kick that was too spicy for my two IttyBittyFoodies but seemed just right for a friend’s 4 year old who munched on one happily.

Bowery Brat

Beefcake chose the Bowery Brat which was an ode to the earliest examples of hot dogs in America that date back to the 1860’s in the Bowery district in New York City. German immigrants earned their livings selling hot dogs, along with milk rolls and sauerkraut, from pushcarts on the side of the street. This rendition of the classic beer braised brat came with caramelized onions, house mustard and sauerkraut.

Kale chips were soooo good

Both Pikelet & Lollo preferred the 1/4 lb beef Naked Dog and chose to pair it with sides of fluffy sweet potato tater tots, crisp onion rings and healthy kale chips.

3 different kechups to suit everyone’s tastes

The Banh Mi with pork sausage and pork belly unfortunately, flopped as it was too dry. However, in all fairness we went in the first opening month so the kitchen is still tweaking the menu. And since our visit, they’ve added a kid’s menu which consists of Baby Mac (hot dog with mac n cheese), Lollypop corn dogs for kids and a kid’s sized, Naked dog Jr.

One thing that surprised us was the service. Being so new, we didn’t expect the service to shine the way it did. Our servers and the bar staff were not only knowledgeable but attentive.

Till our next Happy Meal!
